The major difference between the F20 and F22 is the completely redesigned platform. The Hope F22 flat pedal features a dual concave profile and an asymmetric shape that extends further out to provide better shoe support and a planted feel. Design

In UK, Hope’s Barnoldswick Headquarter, CNC machines the Hope pedals F22 body in-house. The platform is 105mm wide by 100mm long and 17mm deep at the outermost edge. The F20 it replaces is approximately 5mm wider and 1mm thicker.

Although the Hope pedals F22 is larger and has more pins, it still weighs 180g. In part, that’s because the platform’s material is reduced. The weight was measured without the optional spacers with 11 pins per side. A hexagonal pin shape interfaces better with the shoe rubber because it has more square edges.

The F22 is slightly concave near the center, which should allow the rider’s sole to flex a little. As a result of the revised pins, the concavity is enhanced; the front and rear of the pedal are designed to accommodate the long pins (6mm tall), while the center pins are much shorter, only 4mm tall. Each of the reverse-loading long pins can be fitted with a spacer to reduce the difference in height and the concavity depth.

A reinforced axle is said to be stronger and more impact resistant than the axle on the F20 pedal, which contained three cartridge bearings, an IGUS Bush, and internal and external seal arrangements.

Riding impression

First, pins had to be installed on the F22’s since they arrived without them. A hexagonal pin is provided for the front and rear of the pedals, and a shorter ‘grub screw’-style pin is provided for the inside and outside of the platform.

A slightly annoying feature is the longer pins use 2.5mm hex while the shorter pins use 2mm hex. The length can be altered with the washers provided. As a pair, the F22’s weighed 360g with all pins and no washers installed.
